It’s the biggest mystery on the internet. Everyone wants to open an online business. Everyone has a great idea. Everyone has a sure-fire strategy for success. And in many cases, they go out and build impressive websites around their idea. They include features that make the site sticky, drawing visitors in and inviting them to browse around. The graphics are slick and the layout beautiful. Java and Ajax make the browsing experience smooth and seamless. But in the end, no one shows up.
The vast majority of websites never get much of any traffic. Of course, this should come as no surprise. There are millions of different websites, even within a single topic, and there’s no way for the average internet browser to find one specific website without some help. And that’s what this article is about. What can you do as an online entrepreneur to identify yourself to the masses and help them find their way to your website? More importantly, what can you do to achieve that objective with little or no money?
That last sentence is the most important one so far. We all know the pay-per-click options exist and our hard earned money can quickly and easily drive traffic to your website. We all know it can be done at the click of a mouse. But how much will it cost? For those of us who have tried this type of advertising, it’s truly amazing how quickly you can run a tab paying for one click here and one click there. Well, as it turns out, there are some other options available that can drive just as much traffic and won’t cost you a penny.
The first strategy is encompassed by this article you’re reading. I wrote this article and posted it to the internet for free. Nobody’s paying me a penny. I took the time to write is all down because I know how to post it to thousands of different article directories quickly. And at the bottom of this article is a short bio with some brief information about me along with my website address. That means everyone who reads this article has the option of clicking through to my website directly. It’s called article marketing and it’s one of the best strategies for driving website traffic.
The second strategy involves posting comments on popular industry forums. Once you register with a forum, you can post comments within any topic you can find a string for. Your profile usually allows you to create a signature and that signature can include your website address. Once again, you’ve leaving behind a direct link to your website every time you post a comment. And as such, I would post as many comments on industry forums as you possibly can – perhaps as many as 15 or 20 comments each day.
The third strategy is to post comments on popular blogs in your area of expertise of beginning a blog of your own. If you post comments on a blog for 10 consecutive days, I can almost guarantee you that someone is reading your posts. It just happens. People find stuff and you can quickly gain an audience by creating a blog. And of course, you can revert to posting comments on someone else’s blog. You can always leave behind a direct link to your site when you do so.
The forth strategy is to make your website easy to bookmark with any one of the many social bookmarking sites that have emerged during the past year or so. It’s the new craze and sites like StumbleUpon or Boing Boing or Digg can quickly drive traffic to your site if the content you’re providing is appreciated by others. Adding the appropriate buttons and links only encourages that process.
Driving internet traffic doesn’t have to be a mystery. It doesn’t need to be a secret. And there are lots of things you can do to get plenty of organic traffic landing on your website. In most cases, it doesn’t cost any money. It just takes time. And if you can allocate the time, you’ll be amazed at how quickly it will also start happening. Good luck!

Traditional Ways to Increase Web Traffic: Do They Still Work?
For those who are not familiar with these steps, the so-called traditional ways to increase web traffic include:
1. Creating interesting and fresh articles. Although the webmasters can create the content themselves, a number outsource the article writing task. This makes the job easier for the webmaster; and outsourcing is cheaper, too.
2. Improving search engine rankings. This can be done through search engine optimization. With this, people will find the website easier when they use Internet search engines like Google.
3. Exchanging links with other websites. To increase web traffic, a website should be visible in other websites as well.
4. Advertising. This method can be done through a number of ways, such as using e-zines, participating in message boards and discussion forums, among others.
These methods have been used ever since the proliferation of online marketing. But many people are now wondering if these methods are still effective to increase web traffic?
The answer to this question is uncertain. While these methods are essential, many experts say these are not enough to get more website traffic. For one, these methods to increase web traffic have become the standard. And with this, it is inevitable that these ways are no longer as methods; today, they are seen as the basics to get more website traffic. Every website is creating great content, improving search engine rankings, exchanging links, and advertising. So it is obvious that the playing field is now leveled; a webmaster who employs these methods to get more website traffic is no different from the other webmasters. These are no longer options; they are now basics, part of the process involved in creating a website. A webmaster has to think up of other ways in order to get more website traffic.
These other methods include getting web traffic solution services. A web traffic solution is a service that employs the marketing efforts for the website in order to get more website traffic. Obviously, the methodology here is different, since the service providers are not involved in the creation of the website. Instead, in order to get more website traffic, they employ other marketing strategies, such as the use of social media, among others. Web traffic solution service providers do not reveal their exact methods in order to get more website traffic, but these methods do not include the use of “bots” or programs. They also do not send spam, otherwise known as unsolicited mail. These methods of increasing website traffic are frowned upon, since they are unethical and illegal (not to mention, they will not give the website owner the expected results despite the increase in website traffic).
On the other hand, these so-called traditional ways to increase web traffic can still be considered effective. Even if a webmaster gets a web traffic solution service, the website owner should take the make an effort to create an engaging website. No amount of web traffic solution can help a webmaster if the website rarely has content (or if the content is ill-written), for example.
Webmasters should simply assess if they can make traditional methods work to increase web traffic. If not, they should consider getting web traffic solutions to get more website traffic. In the end, it all boils to down on what works best for the website and the website owner.

18 Sure-Fire Success Tips For Free Traffic Generation
2.) Keyword Research – This is the most overlooked step, but most important step. You need to do extensive keyword research. I use Google’s Keyword Tool that is free, but I also recommend using WordTracker. You need to find what are the most looked up keywords and phrases for your industry. It is OK to target the most competitive because if you build it right, you will be blowing your competitors away.
3.) Relative Keyword research – Be sure that you have included many relative keywords in your pages Meta tags as well. This is a huge deal with the algorithms today. There is a difference between keyword stuffed and have relevant keywords. Relevant keywords help build PR (PageRank).
4.) Site Structure – keywords must be in your URL, that is the best way for Google and other search engines to see you and give you relevance. You will see many sites nowadays using dashes “-”. This is the way search engines see a space and tells a word is being separated out. It helps in the site structure. For example http://www.test-site/testing-site-review.html. This structure is putting a very high relevance and ranking on test and site.
5.) Directory Listing – This is an age-old method that some have abandoned, but it still works. Remember, the objective here is to build traffic, so if you are serious, put your link in as many places as possible. By directory listing, you are getting one-way links back to your site, which is a great thing and improves your PR. Not your traffic, but PR is a way to get your on Google’s top pages and therefore more traffic. Reciprocal links are not the best way, but if you are brand new, sometimes you have to do it. If you can do one-ways it is much better. Search engines put a higher ranking on one-way links, so concentrate on those.
6.) Link Exchange – Again, reciprocal link is not as highly rated, but it is still very effective. You need to exchange links with as many websites as humanly possible and for best results make sure they are RELEVANT!!! What this means is it’s not a good idea to have a recording studio site and have a lot of links exchanged with a food site. It is a good idea for a recording studio to be exchanged with other music related sites though such as CD mastering, mp3s, other recording sites, etc… This shows a great deal of relevance with search engines. One key, do not name your links page “links.html” or anything of the sort…it’s a dead give away to search engines and they do not appreciate it. Be creative, recording-studio-resources.html or something like that. Note, no more than 50 links on a page!!!
7.) Article Writing – This has proven as of recent to be a great method to produce traffic. The goal here is to get both one-way backlinks (on some sites) and traffic in an all-in-one step. Here’s the key to writing good articles, you must spin every article your write. What this means is change the articles. Each article generates traffic too…that’s the beauty.
8.) Article Submission – The key
here, submit to directories every 2 days or so with your URL in the “Resource Box”, not in the Body of the article. If you put your URL in the body, most articles directories will decline you.
9.) Forum, Blogging, etc. – Always be focused on finding new outlets to generate traffic. For example, forums are a big deal. Get on a schedule to constantly help others in forums, discussion boards, blogs, etc… This will prove you as an expert and in return people will trust you. To benefit from this, be sure to have your signature file included and don’t spam the sites…this will not help you.
10.) Updating your Content – To keep the visitors coming back for more, you must constantly update your site and have unique content that you cannot get anywhere else. (comes with knowing your niche, section 1). This keeps the visitors coming back for more and will get your site linked to by others because of your content. Free backlinks!!!
11) RSS Feeds – Create an RSS Feed of your website, and make sure to update it when your website is updated. You can use resources like Feedburner to create RSS feeds. Place your RSS feed in the header using the tag.
This will allow your website’s RSS feed gain in traction from robots surfer the internet for RSS feeds, and will create a snowball effect of growing backlinks.
12) RSS Feed Submission – Submit your RSS feed(s) to as many RSS feed(s) directories as possible. Search Google for “RSS Feed Submission”, and others related, and submit your feed to those sites. I would attempt to submit to 25 or more for 30 days straight. It will help gain your RSS feed more exposure, which in return will gain your more backlinks and increase your traffic. The important thing to remember is to always have your feed updated!
13) Ping Blog Pinging Sites like Google Blog, Ping-O-Matic.com, Goat-O-Matic.com, and others every time your update your RSS feed. They have automated ways of sending pings to them with each update. If you are not a programmer, you may need some assistance with creating an automated pinging program and setting up a cron job (This is an application on Linux/Unix system that automatically runs a script/command/program for you at a given specified time)
14) Create a news / press release section on your website, where visitors can go to see new things. Have it updating regularly, and create an RSS feed of that section, and repeat the previous RSS feed methods mentioned to increase exposure for the feed.
15) RSS aggregate Industry news feeds onto your site, and submit them to RSS feeds submission sites as well. To RSS aggregate mean you will gather as many RSS feeds of your industry’s top plays, or news outlet, and create one super RSS feed of it. Then place the RSS feed display in the news section, and/or a ticker on your site. Make sure it is readable by spider, since this will create the effect of you becoming an industry portal. The spiders will see new information on your site all the site, and use your site to navigate to other sites. Which in return will result in your site becoming an authority site, and increasing the traffic that is sent to your site by the search engines.
16) Create Videos of things pertain to your industry, for example a Video Tutorial on “Page Rank”, and explaining if you are in the internet marketing field. Post the video on Youtube, Metacafe, and as many video sites as possible, and on your site. Make sure you have links in the description of the video to your site, and place a watermark or the whole URL of your site inside the video. Preferably at the beginning and end of the video. This alone can increase your site’s traffic by 500%. On one site I have, Youtube sends me between 500 to 1000 new visitors a day!
17) Web 2.0 Bookmarking – Submit ALL your web pages to sites like Del.icio.us, digg.com, stumbleupon.com, reddit.com, furl.net, technorati.com, and others if you can find them. This is the “web 2.0″ traffic that everyone is going gaga over, and there is a reason why. The amount of traffic that is generated from these sites has been known to take servers completely offline. You can easily receive 10,000 to 100,000 visitors in 1 day just from one of your pages being on the top of these sites. The key is to submit as many as possible, and concentrate on creating interesting content that people will love.
18.) Repeat, Repeat, And Repeat!!! The whole key is to be consistent and constantly updating your site. NEVER GIVE UP!!!

I have done numerous tracking of my articles and I found that an article of 300 – 450 words generate the same number of traffic for me as an article of 700 – 1000 words. Therefore if you have written 1000 words articles, you can split it into 3 articles of different parts because people are more likely to finish reading a 350 words article than a 1000 words article.
The reason why internet exists is because of information, therefore writing article is one of the most effective methods of traffic generation as it is one of the mean of information sharing. Through these years, I have developed a way to decide which traffic generation tactics to use whenever I embark on a new project.
1) Budget Limit
If you have a huge budget, I have to congratulate you because you can easily generate huge traffic to your website if you use your money correctly. But for those of you who have limited budget like me when I first started. Do not be discouraged because there are various traffic generation methods that do not require any money at all. Once you decide the type of budget you can spend on traffic generation, you can then move on to the next point.
2) How Many Methods To Use
Personally, I suggest using at most 3 different methods of traffic generation because the more you use, the more dilute your funds and time. Therefore I usually select 3 main methods of traffic generation, 1 paid and 2 free.
3) Decide On The Paid Method and The Free Methods
Once I have decided my budget, I will select one paid method that can be done with the budget I set and two other free methods of traffic generation. What I meant by free here is that these methods do not need any money to work but in turn it requires the use of your time to work. So please do not select 2 free methods that are very time consuming. You should select 1 time consuming one and the other less time consuming one.
Once you decided on the answers to the 3 questions, you can now start to implement them as soon as possible so that you can see the flowing of the money into your bank.
Now put this into practice and you can see the result.
